The Henry Rollins Show - America Is Under Attack (via )

As awesome as Olbermann’s recent comments on Bush not playing golf are, this beats it. Well, to be honest, Rollins’ rants beat just about anyone, just because he makes half the population piss their pants, becuase, unlike Olbermann, you get the feeling that Henry would actually attack you physically if you pissed him off.

I need to start watching IFC…

Where Does the Time Go?

Honestly, I used to have so much more time for meaningless shit, and now it’s all gone. I used to stock my massive music library with bands and albums that I had no intention of ever listening to, just so I could say that I had that album or had heard of that band. It was a street cred thing, I admit that, but I had more street cred than most people because of it. That meant something, I think.

I used to have a bunch of time to write meaningless shit on thisisby.us and post comments on blogs that I read. All of that is gone now. I mean, I have a Tumblr blog, for crying out loud! Isn’t it painfully obvious that I don’t have the time to commit to writing long, drawn-out diatribes about the minutiae of being me on a daily basis? I’m down to sound-bites and hyper-linked pictures, embedded videos and Garfield Minus Garfield and that’s about it. Sure, there’s Sodblog, but half the stuff I write for that site is below my standards and half-finished, anyway.

Where did my free time go?

I used to have time to spend with friends. I used to have time to see my wife and play with my dogs. Now, I get home from work, do some more work, go to the gym, find time to eat something around 9 o’clock and then, maybe, I have time to say “hi” to the wife. That’s if she’s not busy with some work of her own, that is.

A quick illustration of my point: I used to read ESPN’s The Sports Guy religiously. I knew when his columns came out and I’d get to them as soon as I could. I’d even print them out and smuggle them into the shitter, if I was having a busy day at work. You have to multitask sometimes, y’know. Now, I look up to see a column on Deadspin talking about how it had been two weeks since the last Sports Guy column. Two weeks! I had not noticed this. Not at all.

Reading more about it, it appears that Bill Simmons (Sports Guy) had a podcast all lined up a month ago with Barack Obama. Yes, that Barack Obama. But ESPN nixed it with very little in the way of official explanation. That instance, along with various others, apparently, has led to Simmons basically abstaining from writing anything for ESPN, save a throwaway column here and there.

Thing is, it has to be killing this guy not to be writing right now. It’s the NBA playoffs! He lives for the NBA. The second round is actually heating up and still, barely a peep.

Sure, The Sports Guy isn’t the be-all end-all for humorous sports commentary and thinly veiled dick jokes, but still…what the fuck?! How did I miss this? Has my head just been in the sand, or has it been up my own ass?

I need to get out more. I need to read more. I need to listen to more new music. I need to go to more shows. I need to spend more time with my wife and friends (which would involve going to shows and getting out, of course). Most importantly, I need to find more time for inane shit in my life. I’m becoming boring and pedestrian without it. I mean, life isn’t worth living if I can’t watch a documentary on the Ancient Maya while reading about how inferior the WNBA is to men’s badminton, it just isn’t…

Fuck me, I have some catching up to do.
